We strive to tell powerful stories that matters. Matters for the people we photograph. Matters for the people who see them.
I believe that it always starts with ourselves. If the photographer doesn’t feel it – if we, as photographers, are not engaged – for sure, neither will the viewers when they see the pictures and vice-verse: if something is really important to you – it can almost always – and with the right help – become a strong story for others. This is the purpose of this workshop. It is about your passion and your vision: with the right tools and guidance – you will be able to move the undefined ideas to clear stories with impact. The short course is designed for photographers with a desire to strengthen and develop their abilities to tell visual and documentary stories with a personal point of view. We’ll be analyzing pictures stories, conceptual documentary photography, different journalistic approaches and learning how the various photographic languages can be used as a tool to convey your personal vision. Almost everything has been photographed before, but no one has seen the world exactly like you. The workshop will strive to make your vision clearer and stronger.
MADS NISSEN
Mads Nissen nasce nel 1979 in Danimarca e si laurea con il massimo dei voti alla Danish School of Media and Journalism nel 2007. Conclusi gli studi, si trasferisce a Shangai per documentare le conseguenze umane e sociali della rinascita economica cinese, lavorando, tra le numerose testate, per Time, Newsweek, Der Spiegel e Stern.
Nel 2015 un suo scatto di denuncia sull’omofobia dilagante in Russia gli è valso il titolo di “Miglior Fotografo dell’anno” al World Press Photo, il più importante premio fotogiornalistico al mondo. Lo stesso lavoro ha vinto inoltre più di 60 premi e riconoscimenti, e nel 2018 riceve per la terza lavoro il titolo di Fotografo dell’anno. Nel 2016 lavora come fotografo per il Nobel Peace Center a fianco del Presidente della Colombia Juan Manuel Santos.
Oltre ai progetti a lungo termine in cui è impegnato, lavora dal 2014 come staff photographer per il più importante quotidiano danese, Politiken. Nissen, considerato oggi come il più influente fotografo della sua generazione, è rappresentato in UK dall’agenzia Panos Picture, in Italia da Prospekt Photographerse in Germania da Laif.
